40 Mile Beach . . .
40 Mile Beach is a lovely spot! Apart from the super stinky drop loo and the masses of flies that fly up your nose and into your eyes and mouth; it's quite nice. Free from October through to April, it's a great spot to set up for a week or two for some time out away from the town of Karratha.
We were able to keep our boat on the beach shoreline just below our camp; which was handy for Matt - he could just pop out on high tide if he liked. We have been eating lovely fresh fish - Queenies, Coral trout plus hopefully more to come. It's quite nice when the wind is up as it keeps the wretched flies at bay. With hardly any midges at all, it is a relief to sit outside (as long as you have a fly net over your head).
Please do be careful if you choose to swim here at 40 mile Beach, there are tiger sharks, stingrays and stone fish!
Beautiful sunsets paint the sky in pinks, reds and oranges - so pretty!
The boys found a makeshift bunker that someone has obviously lived in at some point; so they gathered up all the old trash (tables, carpet etc...) from in the bushes nearby and created a massive cubby!
Lots of land hermit crabs come out at night; so we caught a few to observe in our home made habitat tub. We decided to provide bigger shells as they were huge crabs squished into tiny little shells. we spruced up their new shells and they loved them! After some entertaining crab races, we let them go back into their natural habitat. Keep an eye out for these cute little guys - especially sprinkles (she was my favourite).
