Barcaldine Tourist Park . . .
We stopped over for the night at the Barcaldine Tourist Park; a nice family run caravan park that boasts a lot of great features that make it an excellent to place to pull up for a night or two when you are in town. You musn't miss the 4pm Damper and Billy Tea get together - with lots of great stories about Barcaldine's history and poetry too... not to mention that some kids live here so that was a plus for our boys. The amenities are fantastic, $3 washing machines, Huge camp kitchen and loads of green grass.... cheap also at only $28/night powered site.
On the eastern side of town you will find the Tree of Knowledge... A sculptural landmark that now stands in the place where a magnificent ghost gum once stood for over 200 years. To see it is quite breathtaking... but to witness its beauty; a night trip is definitely worth the sight.
Barcaldine has a remarkable series of 5 pubs that sweep along the street from one end to the other. The pubs are over 100 years old and have stories to be told if you pop in and grab yourself a beer; have a pub crawl along all 5! - a local will gladly share the history of this pretty town.
