Are you ready for Halloween?
History . . .A good place to start is with the History of Halloween. Click on this link below... to learn about the origin of this spooky celebration. http://www.halloweenhistory.org/ |
English . . .
First; create an eery background using blue's and purple's in water colour - flicking, smudging, tipping and blending the two colours together.
Second; take them step by step through the process of creating a haunted house using polygon shapes that taper toward the bottom on black card, adding little balconies, ballistrade and pointy roofs.
Third; cut out the haunted house and glue onto the watercolour background.
Fourth; add features such as yellow/gold arched windows in gold pen or yellow card, black bats and gravestones drawn in with black nikko pen, and anything else creative that is relative to Halloween.
Fifth; start them off with their spooky story writing by providing sentence starters and some spooky, scary words that could be used in their story.
Collaborate a list of rhyming words that fit into the sound families (eg: 'ee/ea', 'ay/a-e/ai', 'oa/o/ow', etc...) and have the kids list them in their groups. This way the rhyming part is there right in front of their faces, and they only have to come up with the in-between parts.
Maths . . .
Science . . .
Rub the ballon on a wooly jumper/carpet and then slowly put it near the tissue paper cutouts.
Have them explore this activity and journal the results.
Art . . .
Cut strips of orange card (approx. 12), and puncture a hole in either end of the strips. Bind them together at each end using the pipe cleaners and fan out the orange strips to create the pumpkin shape. Use a black nikko pen to add the facial features.
