Cleaverville . . .
This awesome beach front camp is free from October to April each year! There's always a benefit to being the stragglers after peak season, one of them is free camps in some places. It was soooo windy when we first arrived; which was such a relief from this very hot weather (although it's only spring, and locals say "you haven't seen anything yet" - 44 degrees is about as hot as I can handle!). We perched ourselves upon this grassy/sandy hill overlooking the western indian ocean. It was glorious and super windy; but after a couple of days the wind died off and that's when we realised what everyone was saying about the notorious midges! OMG! I don't think I have ever been so irritated by a tiny little insect. Then the flies came; and we decided it was time to invest in a good old fly net.
We met some lovely people here at Cleaverville; always a pleasure to come across other travelling families, especially when they have kids!
Matt managed to get the boat out onto the water for a fish with new friends Shane and Brendan ... fish for tea!
The rock pools on low tide proved to be very dangerous; blue ringed octopus were sighted here (which is odd because they are native to the east coastline in the pacific ocean? We didn't see any blue ringed octopus; but we did come across a number of huge red/brown octopus.
We began the Breadcrumb trail here at Cleaverville - who will find the painted rock treasure?
