VarleyHidden out of sight on highway #40 is the most adorable RV friendly camp just inside the tiny town of Varley.
Blink and you'll miss it! Only 40km south of Hyden on the Lake King/Hyden Highway is where you'll find the cosy community of Varley that proudly states on the welcome sign: "Great Place, Small crowd"..... and we agree! |
. . . The Chicken Ranch . . .
This town has a fantastic stop over camp.... complete with exceptionally clean, well lit flushing toilets, Free BBQ, the cleanest water on tap, power,.......
WAIT...... WHAT? - Power?
That's right travellers.... it has power!!! For a donation you can set yourself up in this camp and base yourself while you have a look around.
Gorgeous little blue fairy lights adorn the gazebo to be switched on and off at your leisure, and conveniently placed tables and chairs make room for many to utilise this area at the same time. You will find yourself set in amongst beautifully manicured gardens, a cute and colourful mosaic pathway and and information board that tells you about the town and the infamous Rabbit Proof Fence.

The Museum
Varley was established in 1939 and now has approximately10 houses residing within the town.
A recreation hall is down the road, where you can play tennis and get fit with other sports. The Medical Centre has regular visits from the Royal Flying Doctor Service from Kalgoorlie, which has established a lifeline for the more isolated communities. A museum is located on Seward Avenue, walkable distance from the camp. Talk to Sheena about visiting the local museum, Sheena is the lovely local who runs the shop every day except Sundays, and open until 12pm on Saturdays. |
The Shop
The local shop - walkable from camp. Lots of local made treasures to be found in here as well as your grocery needs.

Painting the 'Coup' and bins . . .
We all know how much I love to paint anything that stands still....and so this little town had a splash of colour added while we were here ......
A fitting threesome of quirky chickens now adorn the wall of the undercover shed (the coup) at "The Chicken Ranch" camp.
The 'Coup' is actually a kitchen and information area that gives a bit of shelter if raining and also a sink and fresh water for your dishes.

Thanks to Lake Grace Shire for supplying such a welcoming and comfortable camp; and also a huge thanks to Sheena and all involved who keep the camp so tidy, clean and inviting.
