Homeschool Term # 1 ... 2014
We've had loads of troubles with our caravan and car, keeping us from leaving the eastern coastline and persuing our journey; but problems aside - school continues on!
Below you will find a collaboration of some of our favourite activities we covered this term.....
The Gold Rush . . .
Following on from our initial studies of SOSE/History last year; showing changes over a period of time..... we covered the gold rush in Australia and how this affected society and marked a major point in our history.
We learned how to properly pan for gold, how the mine shafts were used to taxi miners and material up and down, and how the massive machinery worked - plus we were told a whole heap of fascinating stories that happened at this particular mine during its years of operation.
The boys created detailed time lines using a fantastic white board app called "Educreations Interactive Whiteboard" to mark important dates in Australian history. We really enjoyed this app because you can add images, text, draw with your finger and record your voice. |
China . . .
The white people of Australia weren't too happy about this 'invasion' as they call it - funny though; when that's exactly what the Brittish did to the Aboriginals back in 1788 during first settlement!
We took this as a perfect opportunity to incorporate some studies about China.

It's definitely worth the watch.
Art . . .
Throw in a super-hero themed story line and VOILA! Super-duper hero scenes!
What a busy term #1 we have had! Easter break is upon us; and we are all taking a well deserved holiday break ....
With loads of programming and planning to do for term #2, I'm thinking we might just take 3 weeks off - soooo excited!
Happy Easter everyone!
