We will be performing the play this upcoming week to the wonderful Lorelle Frost and the adorable children who attend "Jones Parade community kindergarten" at Coolum Beach.
The boys have been working on a unit about "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" - a beautiful storybook classic, written by Eric Carle. We have spent a couple of weeks utitlising this theme to incorporate as many learning opportunities in age-appropriate activities for the boys. We have written biographies, studied the caterpillar as an extension on our insect studies last term, re-written the story sequence imaginatively and from memory, played games to strengthen maths concepts, and most importantly; we have been designing and building props for our drama portion of the unit. We meet up with another homeschool family regularly; which we all thoroughly look forward to. Lately though we have been meeting up a couple of times each week for our caterpillar study unit. The children planned an amazing concept - which was subtly suggested by us mums... to cut out and paint the food from large refrigerator boxes and slip them over our nominated star caterpillar as she eats them during the play. We painted two huge scenes (day and night), and after cardboard-food carving was established; the children painted the food cut-outs with vibrant colours to match those within the story book.

LeighWe've been homeschooling now since September 2012... and loving it! So many opportunities are provided to incorporate the boy's studies - based on the places we visit, and their life experiences travelling. We love Homeschool! Archives
